Quote:" Maybe Nash knew what he was talking about when he said not to tell anybody."
Description: Something is wrong with Kaylee Cavanaugh. She doesn't see dead people, but... She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

Review: Sooo, this book has been sitting on my shelf for about, oh 2 months now. Like with the Deadly Little Secret thing, I just couldn't read it. And just like with Deadly Little Secret, I loved it.

The story is centered around our main character, Kaylee. She lives with her Uncle Brendon, vain Aunt Val, and snooty cheerleader Sophie. Her mother is dead from unknown causes, for now, and her dad is MIA in Ireland. When the story opens, Kaylee and her best friend, Emma are sneaking into Taboo, a local nightclub. While Emma is dancing with strangers, Kaylee gets approached by school hottie, Nash, whom Kaylee has never spoken to before. Before she knows it, her and Nash are dancing, and while taking a break, it happens. She sees a girl she has never seen before, shrouded in a black mist, and the next thing she knows, she's trying to suppress a scream itching its way up her throat. The next morning, the girl is on the news, dead.

From page one, to page 279, I was hooked. I couldn't figure out why these girls kept dying. Well, that's not true. I knew why they were dying, I just didn't know who was pulling the strings. In the book, there is not just one paranormal creature, there is plenty. First we have Nash and Kaylee, and their families, who are Banshee. The male and female are supposed to work together to try to save the soul, but if you do manage to save it, someone else has to die in exchange for the missed soul.

Also in the book, we have grim reapers, yes reaper-s. Cause, ya know, there's a lot of territory to cover, so it's like one grim per region. We also have demons, and the Netherworld. My favorite part of every paranormal book is when the father/grandmother/whoever tells the main character what she is, and how to use her powers. I like when everything is cleared up, and then when the heroine just jumps right into the drama and tries to save her town.

But seriously, this book was really good, and if you're like me, and your CVS is carrying Harlequin Teen books for a short period of time, grab this one. And read it. And love it. And then go out and buy the sequel, My Soul to Save.

Other books in the Series:

  1. Ha! I've got this sitting on my shelf as well--since June, I think. But this makes me want to read it! I can't believe I've put it off so long. My TBR pile is way too huge.
