Review: Between

Between by Cyndi Tefft
Series: Between (?) # 1
(She's writing a sequel, I just don't know the series name :P)
Official Website
Description: It just figures that the love of Lindsey Water's life isn't alive at all, but the grim reaper, complete with a dimpled smile and Scottish accent.
After transporting souls to heaven for the last 300 years, Aiden MacRae has all but given up on finding the one whose love will redeem him and allow him entry through the pearly gates.
Torn between her growing attraction to Aiden and heaven's siren song, Lindsey must learn the hard way whether love really can transcend all boundaries.
Review: I really enjoyed Between. There were a few things that I thought were kinda fishy that I'll get into later, but other than that, it's a really good book. I would totally recommend it to someone who enjoys books regarding Heaven, true love, recovery, and finding yourself.

Between tells the tale of Lindsay Waters. She's a college student who is in love with her best friend, Ravi. She's driving with Ravi, and as soon as they share their first kiss, they get into a car accident, which results in Lindsay dying. She winds up in this beautiful meadow, and meets Aiden McRae, a Scottish Transporter. He transports the dying into Heaven. Ultimately, they fall in love.

One of the things I loved about Tefft's writing is she knows how to tell a story. The pacing was good, it always kept me thinking what was gonna happen next, and there were no parts, that I thought, that were unnecessary. Also, Tefft really knows how to describe setting. When Lindsay and Aiden were traveling back in time (They can teleport to different memories, and since Aiden lived in the 1700's, he has memories of France and kings), I felt like I was there. I knew exactly how she pictured the scenes in her head, and it was very imaginable.

I liked Lindsay as a character, and I felt for her. She was put in a really tough spot, falling in love with Aiden, and then being separated from him. I thought it was hard if your boyfriend lived in another state, but noooo, what separate Aiden and Lindsay is the hardest thing!

Alright, now for what I didn't like. I didn't like how easily Lindsay fell for Aiden. It was like death, seeing the meadow, seeing Aiden, looking at him, BOOM, in love. It happened so fast that I was kinda like, 'Really, she's in love with him already?" And I saw a lot of people thought similarly. It just felt unnatural. Another thing I didn't like was Lindsay's parents. They were divorced, and I feel like they put too much pressure on Lindsay. Because both Lindsay's mom and Dad get drunk, and they both tell Lindsay 'if it weren't for her, her mom would be a dancer, and travelling,' and the girl just got out of the hospital! She's feeling shitty about herself as it is!

I loved the ending. I love-love-love-loved it! I was thinking something different was gonna happen, and my kindle was like, '98%, Lauren, it's almost done!!' But I was like, "Kindle, it can't be done, there is no ending not yet!!" But yeah, it ended and I was happy. I would have been happy if it just stopped at that, and I had that image in my mind of Lindsay, happy, but nooo. Cyndi is writing a sequel, and I really can't wait! I read the synopsis on the back, and it sounds really good. Definitely can't wait!
"I always thought death was something to be afraid of, you know, something terrible. And yet, now here I am in this beautiful place. And I feel more alive than before."

  1. I'm in the middle of reading this one now. They did fall in love insanely fast, it kind of bothered me but I love the time travel. Now I'm really curious about how it ends! Guess I'll be reading all day!
    Great review :)
